Waste Strategy

400 million tonnes of waste are produced in the UK each year.

As well as all the legislation currently in place, the requirements of the waste framework and directives have led to the production of national waste strategies.

The strategies: Outline how the UK proposes to manage the increasing quantity of rubbish produced every year.

Landfill Waste

The strategy also includes plans for dealing with waste diverted from landfill as required of the Landfill Directive.

This would mean things such as recycling and recovery targets for different sorts of waste would be included.

What Is The Function Of The Strategy?

•  To find solutions
•  Look at better uses of our resources
•  Look at better ways to dispose of waste

This covers all waste: household, commercial and industrial.

The three words to remember are:

REDUCE   REUSE   RECYCLE
